Self-portrait shortlisted for 2023 Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize
June 2023
Sally’s self-portrait “Emergence”, has been shortlisted for the prestigious biennial Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize this year, alongside works by some of the leading portrait artists working today. There were over 1800 entries worldwide and Sally’s portrait was one of only 48 works shortlisted. The online exhibition of long-listed and shortlisted works is now available to see here.
This year’s judges were Gabriele Finaldi (Director of the National Gallery), Melanie Gerlis (Financial Times Art Market Columnist), Andrea Rose (former Director of the British Council), Stephen Whittle (Principle Manager, The Atkinson Museum), Lucy Jones (2021 prize winner) and David Borchard (grandson of Ruth Borchard).
The self-portrait was painted in 2019, and was also selected for the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year competition in 2020, in which Sally reached the final.
